Jasper has played well as of late. Actually, Jasper’s record 6-16 isn’t indicative of how they have played this season. Jasper is in its second season in the SIAC Conference, finishing 2-7. That record gave them a finish of 8thm place in conference.
Their Evansville North Sectional has all SIAC schools in it. Jasper drew Evansville Central (6-13)l in the first round on Tuesday night. Jasper played Central on January 26th, a 45-42 loss that saw Jasper go cold in the second half. Jasper heads into Sectional with Junior Guard Isaac Day as their leading scorer at 10.2. Following behind him is a pair of Juniors, Gus Heichelbech (8.2 ppg) and Tanner Erny (7.9 ppg). Four of the six teams in the North Sectional head into this week with winning records, Reitz (14-4), North 13-8, Harrison 11-8 and Castle (10-6). Jasper won Sectional two years ago, 2019, a 45-39 victory over Evansville Reitz. The Wildcats have seniors Caleb Burger, Jace Goodhue, Isaac Heim, William Schmitt and Andrew Wallace. With all that Jasper will have back next season look for the Wildcats to be much improved. |

Jasper Individual Results - All of Jasper's individuals achieved first round pins but fell short in the 2nd round to qualify for the Indiana State Finals held at Banker's Life Fieldhouse. After achieving a first period pin in his first round match on Saturday, he managed to take the lead over Mater Dei's Reed Egli with a quick 1st period takedown. He locked up a Radman chickwing but was reversed when trying to turn Egli. That was followed by an Egli locked cradle and a pin for Mater Dei over Jasper's senior Jainier Milanes. Jeb Prechtel had one of the fastest pins of the entire day in his first round match only lasting 0:24 seconds against a very strong opponent (Robards of Evansville Central). Jeb's second round match was a scrambling battle against the semi-state runner up, Tyler Conley from Avon. Multiple times, Jeb was only seconds away from scoring and taking the lead but in the end fell just 1 point shy of punching his ticket to Banker's Life. Ashton Schuetter also notched a first period pin in the first round against a very strong opponent from Jeffersonville, but he fell to Brach Carrington of Greencastle following a late first period takedown which eventually led to a pin. Carrington would later be crowned the 195 lb semi-state champion, clinching the state alternate spot for Schuetter. Senior Quad Popp was the fourth Jasper wrestler to win by pin in the first period after taking a 4-1 lead in the first period over Lane Mullins of Brown County. Shortly into the 2nd period, Popp turned Mullins and secured the win with a pin. Round 2 against Franklin Community's, Jacob Johnson, held a tight match and a battle of the neutral position for senior Quade Popp. Neither wrestler was able to achieve a takedown in the entire match and both wrestlers managed to get an escape from the bottom position. The deciding factor came when Popp received his second stalling warning which gave a 1 point lead to Franklin's Jacob Johnson. The final score found Popp at the bottom end of a 2-1 decision match. Jasper coaches, fans, and teammates were very proud of the great effort, sportsmanship, and achievements of these individuals that were representing the team at this year's semi-state wrestling tournament!
