SW: Going into Sectional, other than yourself, who would be the favorite?
Rohrer: Well I thought this was probably the most balanced 2A Sectional in the state. We did not have an easy road having to defeat a very good Evansville Mater Dei team Tuesday followed by a good North Posey team Friday before even getting to the finals. From a talent standpoint, I don’t think there is any question South Spencer presented the most challenges to us. SW: What has your team improved on since day one? Rohrer: I think that we have been very connected defensively from the start of the season, but the way we are playing on that end down the stretch is special. Our guys do a tremendous job of taking the scouting reports we give them and applying it on the court. I think offensively we have gradually improved from a chemistry aspect as the season has progressed. We are more efficient now than what we were early in the season, and much of that has just come naturally with our guys getting more and more game experience with each other. SW: Who are your seniors and describe what each brings to the table? Rohrer: You have to start this with Colson Montgomery. He is just as special of a young man and leader as he is a player, and he’s the best athlete in the state in my opinion. His offensive performance in the Sectional was about as special as anyone has ever witness here at Huntingburg Memorial Gym “Camden Gasser is our point guard and a 3 year varsity player. His feel for the game from a passing standpoint make him special. He broke our school record for assists in a season with almost an entire month to play in the season.” Sam Sermersheim is an undersized big but makes up for his height against taller players with how hard he plays and how smart of a player he is. He’s able to manipulate the ball inside to score against taller guys and he uses his strength and quickness well to make things hard on his opponent’s offensive ability. Kaleb Wibbeler has really developed into a top notch defensive stopper for us. He knows his role offensively and has accepted the challenge of guarding our opponent’s best player every single night. Leyton Lauderdale is a role player who has such a positive attitude for our group on the bench and in practice and he no doubt makes us a better team in many different ways. SW: What do you feel led you to victory in the Sectional? Rohrer: I thought our defense all week was incredible. We held Mater Dei 16 points under their offensive average Tuesday, North Posey 16 points under as well Friday, and then capped it off with holding South Spencer 20 points under their average on Saturday. From an offensive standpoint, Colson was on a different level this weekend and really propelled us to victory, but our other players did their jobs offensive as well to help us reach our peak! SW: Who are some of the top players in Regional? Rohrer: Paoli – Brett Bosley Linton – Lincoln Hale & Joey Hart SW Hanover – Foster Mefford, Matthew Williams, Austin Kramer SW: What will it take for Southridge to be Regional Camps? Rohrer: Well I think our defense was very impressive in Sectional, but I think we can take it to the next level in Regionals and that will be very key. Offensively, we need to control pace which means we want to push at times but also slow things down at times and then come out and execute at a high level offensively. I think composure will be a big key again this weekend as it always seems to be in the tournament |
